Daily Planner

Now that the kids are back to school, it seems as though we were on vacation all summer, too! School buses and carpools make traffic heavier, and those of us in the working world leave earlier and get home later. If you have kids, your nights are often clogged with the traffic jams of sports and after-school activities.

Phew! We’re tired just thinking about how busy we’ll be for the next nine months. Add our regular errands to the mix, and you can see how hard it becomes to follow recipes for good health. It’s much easier to reach for high-calorie, high-sugar, high-fat snacks when we’re pressed for time.

The Medifast 5 & 1 Plan works for you always. But it’s especially important to rely on it now. Consider these helpful tips to keep the ingredients for success at hand.

Plan to Stay on Plan.
Got a minute? Maybe you have just one. But that’s all it takes to think about your meals for the day. If you do it at night, before bed, it won’t linger on your to-do list. But if it won’t interrupt your sleep, and you’re a better morning thinker, plan your food choices while you’re taking a shower or getting ready for work. Don’t let hunger catch you unawares!

Fortunately the 5 & 1 Plan means your favorite Medifast Meals are simple and within reach. You’ll get the chance to rev your metabolism and slow down your appetite every two to three hours.

And you never have to worry about water, ice, or a microwave. So many delicious Medifast Meals are ready to eat right out of the container. Pull a Ready-To-Drink Mocha Shake out of your purse or briefcase; keep a bag of Cereal Crunch in your glove compartment; bring a bag of Parmesan or Chili Nacho Cheese Puffs with you to enjoy between meetings.

Even your Lean & Green meals can take you through the day safely with some advance thought. Home too late for dinner with the family? Add some lean protein to your salad, and toss it in a container, or make rollups with lettuce for lunch. Where’s that place with the grilled chicken salad? Pack some on-Plan dressing before you go.

One of the biggest contributors to weight gain—aside from too many calories and not enough exercise—is stress. A difficult relationship, a bad day, or even a rough commute can cause stress, which can lead to mindless, rather than mindful eating.

But the comfort of comfort food is momentary at best. At worst, it can lead to a long bout of discomfort from weight gain and goal derailment. That’s why getting enough rest, relaxation, and personal time in your day is the key to long-term weight control and overall good health. But it’s not just bad choices made in the midst of fluster that can affect you. The hormone cortisol is secreted in higher levels during times of stress. And while cortisol is great for us in the short term (it helps us act quickly and intelligently in times of serious emergency), if we are unable to relax afterward, our hormone levels stay high for too long, contributing to blood sugar imbalances, higher blood pressure, and an increase in abdominal fat, among other things(1).

After a stressful day, when you’re tempted to wind down with TV and junk food, breathe. Before you grab something that’s likely to work against you, sit quietly for a moment, and take some good deep breaths. Remind yourself of all you’ve worked to accomplish. A few moments of calm can lead to good decisions.
