Studies show that writing down your goals goes a long way toward achieving them.
Dominican University conducted a study with 149 participants in a wide range of age brackets, countries, and professions. They were divided into five groups, and each was asked to do one of the following: think about their goals for the next four weeks; type their goals into an online survey; type goals with action commitments; send goals with action commitments to a supportive friend; send goals with action commitments and weekly progress to a supportive friend.(1)
Those in the final group—the ones who sent weekly progress to a supportive friend—achieved considerably more than the other groups. All the groups writing goals accomplished significantly more than the first group.
So commitment to a goal is not enough. Writing it down and being accountable are the best ways to ensure success!
